Sharpening is a delicate art rooted in science. It's important to entrust your shears to the right person. Unqualified sharpeners botch shears. The average sharpener uses the wrong equipment and/or methodology. He removes too much metal and doesn't maintain your blades' highly specialized angles, shape, and structure. The result? Your expensive, specialized tool underperforms or fails.

Meticulous methodology and skill set me apart from other sharpeners. I was trained by a master and have studied shear sharpening for years. Unlike the large majority of other sharpeners, I use Classical Japanese technique to achieve a buttery-feeling, precise cut.

After disassembly, each blade receives an evaluation and plan of action to address problem areas. The Hira-To--a flat hone designed exclusively to sharpen cosmetology shears--creates a new razor edge on the outer part of your blades. I use the Hira-To to convex each blade, optimizing shape and cutting angle, all while vigilantly conserving metal. Japanese whetstones add the essential finishing touch to the inner blade. Six distinct quality checks ensue. The end result? Hair melts off newly sharpened shears as it should.

| Be sure your sharpener completely disassembles your shears to service them

| Never give your shears to someone who uses a vertical wheel or the Twice-As-Sharp, a machine designed to bevel heavy-duty industrial and kitchen scissors

| Make sure your sharpener uses Japanese stones as part of every sharpening

| After each service, your shears should cut as well as (or better than) they did brand new
